Regional police report surge in traffic violations and domestic violence

Law enforcement agencies across several Balkan and Eastern European regions have reported a significant increase in traffic violations and domestic violence incidents.

In Romania, police are addressing a dangerous TikTok trend where drivers film themselves reaching speeds of 300 km/h. Authorities have issued over 550,000 speeding fines since the start of the year. Additionally, domestic violence interventions in Hunedoara County led to the issuance of protection orders and the use of electronic monitoring for aggressors. In Constanța, consumer protection agencies issued over 1.2 million lei in fines following inspections of food service providers.

In Croatia, multiple incidents involving driving under the influence of alcohol were recorded, including a 62-year-old driver in Malinska who was operating a vehicle despite a revoked license. In Split, a 20-year-old was detained for driving while intoxicated and under a driving ban.

Other regional reports include widespread traffic enforcement in Bulgaria, Macedonia, and Slovakia. In Slovakia, police recorded 247 accidents in a single week, resulting in three deaths. In Macedonia, intensive controls led to 67 arrests for reckless driving and 2,720 total traffic citations.
