Constanța launches 275 digitalized eco-islands for waste management

The Constanța City Hall has announced the operational launch of 275 digitalized eco-islands designed to streamline sustainable waste disposal. These stations facilitate the separate collection of five waste categories: plastic and metal, paper and cardboard, glass, biodegradable, and residual waste.

To use the system, residents must use specific access cards assigned to their apartments. For the biodegradable and residual fractions, users are advised not to use bags larger than 35 liters to prevent clogging the bins. Mayor Vergil Chițac clarified that while residual and biodegradable waste should be placed in plastic bags, other fractions like paper and metal should be deposited by emptying the bag into the container.

Recyclable packaging should be emptied, rinsed if necessary, and flattened before disposal. As this new system is implemented, old waste containers will be removed, making the eco-islands the exclusive disposal points for residents. Authorities have also requested citizens to report any acts of vandalism or damage to the equipment.
