Constanța truck crash leads to police force investigation
On 8 June 2026 a tractor‑trailer driven by a 49‑year‑old man from Oradea lost control in Constanța, Romania, striking a passenger bus and nine other vehicles. Two people were injured and taken to hospital, while six others received on‑site medical aid. The driver suffered severe hypoglycaemia, reportedly being on the verge of a diabetic coma, and was later discharged from hospital.
Local police intervened to stop the moving vehicle. According to Constanța Police Director Ionuț Dumitru, officers used their equipment, breaking the cab windows, applying tear‑gas spray and striking the driver, stating that “Poliștii locali au considerat necesară folosirea mijloacelor din dotare.” An internal administrative investigation has been launched to determine whether the police actions were lawful, while the Constanța County Police continue their inquiry into the accident’s circumstances.
