Constance Zimmer reveals secret breast cancer diagnosis
Actress Constance Zimmer has revealed that she was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), also known as Stage 0 breast cancer, on March 13. She shared the news via Instagram to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, noting that she had kept the diagnosis a secret while participating in a public press tour for the FX series ‘Love Story’.
Zimmer described the experience as an overwhelming mental toll. While many medical professionals initially suggested a mastectomy as the quickest way to remove the mass, Zimmer worked with a surgeon, Dr. Kristi Funk, to pursue a lumpectomy instead. This approach allowed her to undergo three surgeries over three weeks to preserve her breast.
Following her surgeries, Zimmer underwent radiation therapy. She confirmed that she is now cancer-free and used her announcement to encourage other women to prioritize medical screenings and health monitoring.
