Constant headphone use among youth raises social concerns

The increasing habit of wearing headphones continuously among young people is becoming a widespread trend. Driven by the popularity of smartphones, wireless earbuds, and digital content platforms, many individuals use audio devices during commutes, work, exercise, and household chores.

Research indicates significant engagement with audio content. According to Edison Research, individuals aged 13 to 34 spend an average of 4.5 hours per day listening to music and podcasts. Additionally, Spotify data shows that young people accounted for approximately 56% of total music plays on the platform between January 1 and November 25, 2025.

While these devices provide constant entertainment, experts suggest that the habit of being perpetually immersed in audio may lead to missed social connections and potential impacts on mental health.
