Constant Mutamba faces 15-year sentence request in FRIVAO embezzlement case

Prosecutors have requested 15 years of forced labor for former Minister of Justice Constant Mutamba and former interim coordinator of the FRIVAO, Chancard Bulokola. The case involves allegations of embezzlement of public funds and money laundering related to the Special Fund for the Reparation and Compensation of Victims of Illicit Activities of Uganda in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FRIVAO).

The disputed transactions involve more than $20.2 million USD. Specific contested payments include $14.299 million to Congo Energy, $4 million to the Congolese Institute for Nature Conservation (ICCN), $1.024 million to Divo SARL, $715,864 to Tropic Architecture, and $200,000 to the Tshopo Provincial Assembly.

During the proceedings, Bulokola pleaded not guilty, maintaining his innocence before the Court of Cassation. The prosecution also requested the dismissal of all civil actions filed within the procedure.
