Constantin Cuiumju criticizes Moldova's Economy Minister over energy saving appeal

Constantin Cuiumju, a deputy from the Our Party, has criticized Economy Minister Dorin Junghietu following the minister's appeal to citizens to reduce energy consumption and improve energy efficiency.

Cuiumju argued that the primary responsibility of authorities is to ensure efficient state administration and management of public funds rather than shifting the burden of energy savings onto citizens. He questioned whether teaching people how to save energy is a minister's true mission, suggesting instead that officials should focus on managing the economy, ensuring timely salary indexation, and efficient public spending.

The criticism follows statements by Minister Junghietu regarding the need for reduced consumption as energy bills may rise significantly. Junghietu noted that over 50% of energy consumed in Moldova is used in buildings and stated that authorities are preparing energy efficiency programs, including for residential apartment blocks.
