Constantin Film halts ‘Die Päpstin’ series production

Constantin Film has halted preparations for the planned television seriesDie Päpstin’ (The Pope's Daughter) shortly before filming was scheduled to begin in October. The Munich-based company confirmed the decision, citing the sudden withdrawal of a foreign financing partner as the primary reason.

The production, which had a budget of approximately 20 million euros, was considered one of Germany's largest film and television projects of the year. It was based on the successful novel and previous film adaptation. Setups and scenery had already been established at the Hohenzollern Fortress in Würzburg, which must now be dismantled and stored.

Jella Haase was slated to star in the lead role. While the project is currently stopped, company spokesperson Katja Wirz expressed hope that the production materials could be utilized at a later date. Public funding had already been pledged, including one million euros from the Film-Fernseh-Fonds Bayern and 300,000 euros from Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg.
