Constantine floods cause road closures and emergency rescues

Heavy rainfall in the Constantine province of Algeria has caused significant flooding, leading to road closures and emergency rescue operations. On Saturday, intense storms impacted several areas, including the national road n°3 connecting Oued Athmania to Aïn M’lila, making travel impossible in certain sections.

The Civil Protection services conducted multiple interventions in El-Khroub and surrounding communes such as Ouled Rahmoun and Ibn Badis. Rescuers assisted individuals trapped in mud, evacuated people from flooded buildings, and pumped water from private homes and public facilities, including an Algérie Télécom office. Several people, including an elderly man and a family of four, were evacuated to safety.

Meteorological services have issued a level 2 alert for several eastern and southern provinces, including Mila, Guelma, Souk Ahras, and Batna, predicting precipitation between 20 and 40 mm. The National Gendarmerie has advised motorists to avoid flooded routes and exercise extreme caution during travel.
