Constitutional Court of Romania delays key integrity law ruling

The Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) has postponed deliberations regarding the integrity law and the national biodiversity conservation strategy until August 17. These decisions are critical for the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), as the laws are linked to milestones involving approximately 2 billion euros in European funding.

The integrity law, which concerns the National Integrity Agency, has faced challenges from President Nicușor Dan and parliamentary groups including PNL and USR. The delay poses a significant risk to meeting PNRR deadlines, as the laws must be promulgated and published by August 31 to secure the associated funding.

Amidst these legal proceedings, reports have surfaced regarding an unannounced meeting on August 14 between CCR President Simina Tănăsescu and PNL leader Ilie Bolojan. The meeting reportedly took place in the office of Senate President Mircea Abrudean, drawing criticism from PSD Senator Daniel Zamfir, who questioned the timing and nature of the discussion just days before the court's scheduled session.
