Constitutional Tribunal President files criminal complaint over police entry
Bogdan Święczkowski, President of the Constitutional Tribunal, has filed a notification with the National Prosecutor's Office regarding an incident on July 14. During a meeting of the General Assembly of Judges, a prosecutor and police officers entered the headquarters of the Constitutional Tribunal.
The Tribunal alleges that the actions of the officials may constitute an abuse of power or a failure to perform duties. There are further allegations of unlawful attempts to influence the official activities of the constitutional body and attempts to force a change in the President of the Tribunal's decision regarding the participants of the General Assembly.
The dispute is rooted in a conflict over judges elected by the Sejm in March. Reports indicate that on July 14, certain individuals were either denied participation in the General Assembly or allowed to attend without voting rights, leading to the police intervention.
