Constância school group sees enrollment rise after years of decline

The Agrupamento de Escolas de Constância has reported an increase in student enrollment for the 2026/2027 school year, reaching 597 students. This follows several years of declining numbers, which had dropped to a low of 553 students in the 2024/2025 period.

Constância Mayor Sérgio Oliveira attributed this growth to a demographic recovery in the municipality, noting that the increase is primarily driven by new families choosing to reside in the area. Data from the National Institute of Statistics indicates the municipality's population grew to 4,048 residents by the end of 2025.

The growth is most significant in pre-school and primary education, particularly in the Constância and Santa Margarida school centers. School director Olga Antunes noted that the influx of younger children is a reliable indicator of young family settlement, which supports the long-term sustainability of the school group. Additionally, the secondary education level has expanded with two new classes. The student body also includes 52 foreign students, representing approximately 9% of the total.
