Construction collapse in Santa Elena, El Salvador kills one worker, injures two

On August 1, 2026 a wall of a construction site in the Santa Elena residential area of Antiguo Cuscatlán, La Libertad, El Salvador collapsed, burying three workers. Rescue teams from Cruz Verde Salvadoreña and Cruz Roja Salvadoreña extracted two survivors, while a 19‑year‑old worker, Sebastián Burgos of Apopa, was found dead. The injured workers, Milton Ernesto Ortiz and Rodrigo Contreras, were stabilized and taken to medical facilities.

El Salvador's Minister of Labor, Rolando Castro, announced that ministry personnel would inspect the site to determine the conditions that led to the accident. No further details on the cause have been released.
