Construction labor shortage highlighted by Argentine worker in Spain

Matías Armani, an Argentine bricklayer with over 20 years of experience, reported a high demand for skilled construction workers after relocating to Marbella, Spain. Upon submitting his resume, Armani received calls from 10 different companies within just two days.

Armani noted that the shortage of skilled labor is a phenomenon seen in both Spain and Argentina. He attributed the scarcity to a lack of interest among young people aged 18 to 30 in learning trades. He observed that the issue does not appear to be driven by low wages, noting that official salaries in the sector range between 1,500 and 1,800 euros, which can exceed the earnings of some university-educated roles.

Veteran bricklayer Rafa Domínguez, who has worked in the industry for over sixty years in Madrid, added that the profession has become increasingly complex, now requiring expertise in diverse areas such as air conditioning, solar panels, and various installations.
