Construction Site Fatality in Montefortino, Italy

A 33‑year‑old Ivorian construction worker died on June 12, 2026 at the Bussonico site in Montefortino, part of the Anello dei Sibillini project. The CGIL union in the provinces of Ascoli Piceno and Fermo condemned the incident, demanding rapid judicial investigations to clarify the circumstances and assign responsibility.

The union called for concrete safety measures, including stronger worker training, increased site inspections with dedicated resources, and enhanced protections for migrant labourers. It also pressed regional authorities to issue orders limiting construction work during the hottest hours of summer and proposed introducing a specific “work homicide” offence and a national prosecution office to address fatal workplace accidents. The CGIL’s statement repeatedly echoed the phrase “Basta morti sul lavoro” (“Enough deaths at work”).
