Consum to invest 100 million euros in Barcelona logistics platform
The Valencian cooperative Consum will invest 100 million euros to build a new 50,000-square-meter logistics platform in the Barcelona Free Trade Zone. The facility will specialize in fresh, refrigerated, and frozen goods to strengthen the cooperative’s logistics capacity in Catalonia.
Consum has signed an agreement with the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona and Vidriería Rovira to lease an 80,000-square-meter plot previously occupied by the Damm bottle factory. The lease is set for 30 years, with an option to extend to 50 years. Construction to adapt the space is expected to begin in late 2027, with operations slated to start by the end of 2029.
During the first five years of operation, the project is expected to create 150 jobs, with priority given to workers from Vidriería Rovira. This expansion aims to support Consum’s growing store network in Catalonia and improve service efficiency. The cooperative currently operates two logistics platforms in the Barcelona province and plans to open seven proprietary stores and 13 Charter franchises this year.
