Consumentenbond warns consumers about warranty rights
A study by the Consumentenbond reveals that 59% of consumers do not claim their right to a warranty when a product is defective. Among those surveyed, 64% believed they no longer had any warranty coverage, with half of those respondents citing the fact that the product was more than two years old as the reason.
The organization warns that in the Netherlands, legal warranty does not have a fixed two-year expiration date. Instead, the duration of the guarantee depends on the reasonable expected lifespan of the product. For example, certain appliances like refrigerators are expected to function for several years, meaning consumers may still be entitled to free repairs or replacements long after the initial purchase.
