Consumer advice for receiving invoices after canceled online orders

Consumer advocates, specifically the Verbraucherzentrale Hessen, are warning against unauthorized invoices sent after users have aborted online ordering processes. These incidents often involve third-party portals offering services such as power of attorney documents, mail forwarding, or broadcasting fee applications.

To contest these invalid invoices, experts recommend submitting a written objection stating that no paid order was placed. Consumers are advised to preserve evidence, such as screenshots of the website, the ordering process, and relevant emails. Additionally, individuals have the right to request information from providers regarding what personal data has been stored and for what purpose.

In many cases, users begin a process but stop once costs are disclosed. Some providers' terms and conditions attempt to charge compensation for administrative effort if users do not respond to follow-up emails within 24 hours. However, consumer protection experts state such charges are inadmissible.
