Consumer confidence trends diverge in Ghana and the United Kingdom
Economic indicators show diverging trends in consumer and business sentiment across Ghana and the United Kingdom.
In Ghana, the Bank of Ghana reported that the Consumer Confidence Index fell to 111.9 in August 2026, down from 112.7 in June. This decline contrasts with business sentiment, which remained stable at 107.8. While household confidence has weakened from its February peak of 117.7, business confidence has shown more resilience despite becoming more cautious than at the start of the year.
In the United Kingdom, GfK’s Consumer Confidence Index rose by one point in September to minus 13, marking three consecutive monthly increases. Although the index remains in negative territory, gains were noted in perceptions of the wider economy and personal finances. However, concerns regarding rising inflation, energy, and fuel prices persist, and the major purchase index saw a slight decline.
