Consumer Council tests 36 brands of sanitary napkins

The Consumer Council conducted a comprehensive test on 36 different brands of winged sanitary napkins, categorized into four groups based on length (ranging from 22cm to 43cm). The evaluation assessed various parameters, including absorption speed, weight consistency, adhesive strength, pH levels, chemical safety (such as formaldehyde and fluorescent substances), and microbiological safety.

Results showed significant disparities in absorption performance, with the fastest products absorbing liquid in 3 seconds, while the slowest took 73 seconds. Out of the 36 products tested, 15 achieved a perfect 5-star overall rating. Top-performing brands included Sofy, Kotex, Whisper, and Kleannara.

The testing followed specific national standards regarding hygiene and safety requirements, including checks for bacteria, fungi, and pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Individual unit prices for the tested products ranged from approximately $1.01 to $5.63.
