Consumer debt rises in Mato Grosso do Sul and Paraná
Consumer delinquency and indebtedness are rising in the Brazilian states of Mato Grosso do Sul and Paraná, according to recent data from Serasa and the National Confederation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC).
In Mato Grosso do Sul, Serasa reports that 1.3 million consumers were in default in August 2026, totaling R$ 11.27 billion in debt. This represents 60.86% of the state's adult population, a figure higher than the national average of 51.06%. The number of delinquent consumers grew by approximately 0.94% compared to July.
In Paraná, the delinquency rate rose to 18.5% in August, up from 17.9% in July and 12.4% in August 2025. While the state maintains one of the lowest delinquency rates in the country, household indebtedness has climbed to 88%, up from 85.7% a year ago. Data from CNC and Fecomércio PR indicates that 50.9% of those in default in Paraná have debts overdue for more than 90 days.
