Consumer Defense Unit launches inspections in Bolivia over product weight discrepancies
The Consumer Defense Unit has launched inspections in Oruro, Bolivia, following the discovery of weight discrepancies in essential goods. During an operation at the Tagarete market, officials found that a quintal of sugar, which should weigh 46 kilograms, actually weighed only 43 kilograms.
Lieutenant Leslie Cuéllar, head of the Consumer Defense Unit, announced that new controls and the installation of free scales in markets will be implemented to help consumers verify product weights. These measures aim to prevent speculation and ensure customers receive the correct amount of products such as sugar, rice, fruit, and meat.
Authorities have also noted price variations in certain goods and have called for merchants to participate in discussions regarding supply and pricing. The public is encouraged to report any discrepancies in product weights or prices to the official reporting line.
