Consumer fraud: Fake air conditioners sold as premium cooling devices

A fraudulent product marketed as a premium air conditioning unit has been uncovered. Devices sold under names such as Epicooler, WellaCooler, and Coolizi claim to use ‘NASA technology’ to cool rooms within minutes for approximately 160 euros.

An investigation by Stiftung Warentest revealed that the devices do not contain a refrigerant cycle or heat dissipation mechanism. Instead, the internal components consist of a standard PC fan paired with a small heating module. A label inside the unit identifies it as a ‘Wall Mounted Heater,’ indicating the product is actually a simple wall heater rather than a cooling device. In ‘Cold Wind’ mode, the device provides only a weak breeze and fails to lower room temperatures.
