Consumer price trends show fluctuations in Senegal and Mayotte

Consumer prices in Senegal saw a slight increase of 0.2% in May 2026 compared to April, according to the Agence nationale de la statistique et de la démographie. This monthly rise was primarily driven by a 2.1% increase in costs related to housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels. Other contributing factors included a 0.8% rise in clothing and footwear prices. On an annual basis, inflation in Senegal stood at 1.3% between May 2025 and May 2026.

In Mayotte, consumer prices decreased by 0.4% in July, following a similar increase in June. This decline was largely attributed to a 4.5% drop in energy prices, specifically a 6.7% decrease in petroleum products. Despite this relief, food prices rose by 0.2%, driven by a 2.5% increase in fresh produce. While the annual inflation rate in Mayotte slowed to 1.6%, energy costs remain 10.4% higher than in July 2025.
