Consumer protection alerts issued for children's products in Romania

Consumer protection authorities in Romania have issued warnings regarding safety risks in products intended for children. In Constanța, the County Committee for Consumer Protection (CJPC) has temporarily suspended nap services in 20 kindergartens due to the use of defective cribs. These cribs deform under the weight of children, creating curved sleeping surfaces that experts from the National Institute of Public Health and the Association for Orthopedics and Pediatric Traumatology warn could negatively impact physical development and the musculoskeletal system.

Additionally, European safety alerts have identified various school supplies posing risks to children. These include notebooks and pencil cases containing excessive levels of phthalates (DEHP) and cadmium, which can affect the reproductive system, kidneys, and bones. Other flagged items, such as specific notebooks and backpacks, present choking hazards due to small parts like pen caps that could obstruct airways. These products are available both in physical stores and online, including within the Romanian market.
