Consumer Reports identifies top chocolate ice cream brands
Consumer Reports conducted a blind taste test of 11 chocolate ice cream brands, evaluating them based on flavor, texture, and overall value. Major brands Breyers and Häagen-Dazs received top marks for taste.
Several store brands were identified as high-value alternatives. Wellsley Farms Premium Chocolate Ice Cream from BJ’s Wholesale Club was noted for its deep, dark-chocolate flavor. Specially Selected Aldi Super Premium Chocolate Ice Cream was highlighted as a strong value, with testers noting it tasted similar to Häagen-Dazs but cost approximately 65 percent less. Other recommended options included 365 Whole Foods Market Chocolate Ice Cream for its bittersweet flavor and Trader Joe’s Super Premium Ultra Chocolate for dark chocolate enthusiasts.
The report also distinguished between regular ice cream, which typically contains 150 to 250 calories per two-thirds of a cup, and premium varieties, which can contain 250 to 300 calories or more due to higher fat content.
