Consumer rights and provider deals in the Netherlands

In the Netherlands, the Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) has clarified regulations regarding how service providers must notify customers when mobile, internet, or all-in-one contracts are nearing expiration. Providers are required to send a personalized message between one and three months before a contract ends. This notification must be sent via a durable medium, such as email or a letter, and cannot simply be a footnote on an invoice or a general marketing email.

The mandatory information must include the contract end date, instructions on how to cancel or renew, current service costs, and available cheaper alternatives. Providers must also inform customers at least once a year about the best rates for their specific situation. If no action is taken, subscriptions typically convert to indefinite contracts with a one-month notice period.

In the context of competitive pricing, provider Hollandsnieuwe is currently offering a promotion for two-year internet and TV subscriptions. Under this deal, customers pay 20 euros per month for the first year. Available packages include a 100 Mbit/s option and a 1 Gbit/s option, with the latter intended for larger households or heavy users.
