Consumer rights ruling in India and immigration warnings in Malaysia

In India, the Shimla District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has ordered a bank to pay approximately ₹14.5 lakh to a customer. The dispute arose after a bank claimed that gold jewelry pledged for loans in 2022 and 2023 were fake during a subsequent internal audit. The customer contested the finding, noting that the bank's experts had verified the quality and weight of the jewelry at the time the loans were granted. The commission ruled that there was a deficiency in the bank's service.

In Malaysia, Home Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has issued a warning to employers who hire undocumented immigrants, stating such actions pose a threat to national security. Data from the Immigration Department shows a significant increase in enforcement actions against employers. Between January 1 and September 29, 1,809 employers were arrested for employing or housing undocumented migrants, of whom 1,692 were Malaysian nationals.
