Consumer tests evaluate German facial creams and masks

Recent consumer tests in Germany have evaluated the quality and safety of various facial moisturizers and masks.

In a moisturizer test conducted by IMTEST, La Roche-Posay Hydraphase HA Leicht received the highest overall rating. The product was noted for its pleasant, non-greasy texture and high performance, with laboratory tests showing allergens, formaldehyde, phthalates, and benzene were below detectable limits. However, the product received criticism for its large plastic packaging relative to its volume and its higher price point. Balea moisturizing cream from DM was identified as the best value for money.

Separately, Öko-Test analyzed 17 cream-based facial masks from drugstores, discounters, and natural cosmetics brands. Most products received 'good' or 'very good' ratings. Low-cost options, such as the Schaebens moisturizing mask and the Balea Aloe Vera mask, were highlighted for their high-quality ingredients despite their low prices. One hyaluronic mask from Dermasel received a mediocre rating due to a synthetic musk fragrance suspected of having hormonal effects, while the most expensive product tested, Ahava's Hydration Cream Mask, received an 'unsatisfactory' rating.
