Consumer tests favor budget drugstore brands over luxury products

Consumer products from drugstore and discount retailers are receiving high marks in recent evaluations, while luxury brands face criticism.

In an Öko-Test of 18 aftershave balms, budget-friendly options such as dm’s Balea Men Energy and Aldi’s Lacura Men received ‘very good’ ratings. In contrast, the L’Occitane Homme Cade Aftershave Balm, priced at 40 Euro per 100 ml, received an ‘insufficient’ rating due to concerns regarding ingredients like Chlorphenesin and PEG/PEG derivatives, which were noted for potential skin irritation and increased skin permeability.

Regarding hair care at dm, several shampoos have gained high customer satisfaction ratings. L’Oréal Paris Elvital Glycolic Gloss and Hydra Hyaluronic shampoos both hold 4.7-star ratings for addressing dryness and lack of shine. Additionally, Head & Shoulders Derma X Pro Hydra Pflege is highlighted for its effectiveness on sensitive and dandruff-prone scalps.
