Consumer tests reveal limitations of mini and compact washing machines
Consumer organizations have highlighted the performance limitations of various small-scale washing machines. Testing by the Portuguese organization DECO PROteste on a low-cost, USB-powered mini washing machine found that it failed to remove common stains such as tea, blood, milk, ink, and oil. The device also required users to rinse clothing by hand after the cycle.
In a separate study by Swiss consumer programs Kassensturz and K-Tipp, eight compact washing machines with capacities of three to five kilograms were evaluated. Results showed that only three models achieved good cleaning results, while the two least expensive models failed to remove everyday stains like chocolate and grease.
Additionally, experts note that using short wash programs may not be as energy-efficient as expected. While short cycles save time, longer eco-programs often consume less electricity because they use lower water temperatures and more gradual heating processes. Short cycles also frequently require smaller laundry loads to be effective, which can impact overall efficiency.
