Consumer tips for sauerkraut safety and budget coffee alternatives

Guidelines have been provided for identifying spoiled sauerkraut and finding budget-friendly coffee alternatives.

To ensure sauerkraut safety, consumers should monitor for specific warning signs. While a strong, sour aroma is normal due to lactic acid bacteria, a putrid, musty, or rotten egg smell indicates harmful bacteria and requires discarding the product. While a thin white or pink film of Kahm yeast is generally harmless and can be removed, black spots or mold indicate spoilage.

In the consumer goods sector, Aldi's private label coffee, Barissimo Espresso Classico, has been identified as a cost-effective alternative to premium brands like Lavazza. Produced by Markus Kaffee GmbH & Co. KG, the coffee is priced at approximately 54.99 PLN per kilogram, significantly lower than Lavazza varieties which can range from 70 PLN to nearly 130 PLN per kilogram.
