Consumer trends show shifts in clothing habits and economic sentiment
Recent studies highlight evolving consumer behaviors regarding clothing and economic well-being. In Chile, a Cadem report indicates that 66% of people keep clothing in hopes of wearing it again, reflecting a mix of nostalgia and economic constraints. The study also notes significant stress among the population, with 53% citing a lack of money as a primary stressor, followed by unemployment and debt.
In Europe and Spain, consumption patterns are shifting toward fast fashion and e-commerce. Data from the European Environment Agency shows the average European citizen purchases 19 kilograms of textiles annually. In Spain, while consumers still use physical stores, there is a heavy reliance on large chains like Zara, H&M, and Mango, as well as online giants such as Amazon and Shein. An OCU survey in Spain found that consumers purchase an average of 11 items of clothing and footwear per year, which is less than one acquisition per month.
