Consumers in Paraguay and Chile prioritize price over brand loyalty

Consumers in Paraguay and Chile are increasingly prioritizing price over brand loyalty to manage household budgets. In Paraguay, Gustavo Lezcano, president of the Paraguayan Chamber of Supermarkets (Capasu), noted that shoppers are becoming more rational, frequently comparing prices and opting for cheaper emerging brands over traditional ones. While the supermarket sector in Paraguay showed positive growth in the first eight months of 2026, the pace has slowed due to weather conditions and international cost factors.

In Chile, a price monitoring analysis by BiQu compared 17 essential products for traditional celebrations across major retailers including Líder, Jumbo, and Tottus. The study found that while Líder offered the cheapest complete basket, consumers could save approximately 15% by purchasing specific items from different stores where they were cheapest. The analysis highlights that no single supermarket is the cheapest for every product, emphasizing the importance of price comparison tools for managing consumer spending.
