Consumers Union President advises gold appraisal to prevent fraud

Mahmut Şahin, President of the Consumers Union, has issued a warning to citizens regarding the purchase and sale of gold. To avoid being defrauded, Şahin recommends that individuals utilize appraisal houses (ayar evleri) to verify the purity and value of gold items.

He noted that while gold minted by the mint is generally reliable, other items such as bracelets and jewelry carry risks. Specifically, he warned that the gold content might be lower than stated or that items might merely be gold-plated.

Şahin compared the process to automotive inspections, stating that specialized machines used in appraisal houses can accurately determine the true karat and value of jewelry, helping both consumers and jewelers avoid victimization.
