Contagem inaugurates Casa da Igualdade Racial to combat racism

The municipality of Contagem is launching the Casa da Igualdade Racial, a public facility designed to strengthen policies against racism and promote racial equality. The initiative is part of the federal government’s “Mais Igualdade” Program and aligns with the National Policy for the Promotion of Racial Equality.

The center will serve as a community space for coexistence, support, and specialized assistance. It aims to reduce racial inequalities and strengthen social, cultural, and community ties for the Black population and traditional communities. Key services include psychological, social, and legal support for victims of racial crimes and other forms of ethnic discrimination.

Additionally, the facility will focus on valuing Afro-Brazilian culture, promoting citizenship, and fostering collaboration between the public sector, social movements, and civil society organizations to improve responses to the demands of the Black population.
