Contemporary African art exhibitions showcased in France

Various exhibitions in France are highlighting contemporary African artistic expressions. In Paris, artist Kokou Ekouagou, co-founder of the Fragments Nomades Collective and technical advisor for Art Héritage Culture, has facilitated connections between Togolese creators and international networks. His participation included the ArtTrip exhibition at Atelier Basfroi and the Art Shopping international fair at the Carrousel du Louvre, aiming to increase visibility and foster collaborations for Togolese artists.

In Fontaine, near Grenoble, photographer Mabeye Deme is presenting ‘Golf Sud’ at the VOG from November 7, 2026, to January 17, 2027. The exhibition features the ‘Gudi Dakar’ series, captured between 2015 and 2022, which depicts the nocturnal life and ordinary workers of Dakar’s suburbs. Moving away from traditional postcard imagery, Deme’s work focuses on small pockets of light in the city, such as late-night workshops and shops, while addressing social themes like public lighting and electricity costs.
