Contemporary art exhibitions opening in Karlovac and Zagreb

Two new art exhibitions are set to open in Croatia, focusing on themes of value and time.

In Karlovac, academic artist Doria Valković will present ‘Došlo je iz smeća’ (It Came from the Trash) at the ZILIK Gallery. The exhibition, opening October 8, explores the concept of value by repurposing discarded items such as rejected paintings, obsolete books, and various waste materials into oil paintings, multimedia sculptures, and transformed diaries.

In Zagreb, multimedia artist Neli Ružić will showcase ‘2089. godine je ovdje bila šuma’ (In 2089, a Forest Was Here) at the Fine Arts Center of the City of Zagreb. Part of the ‘Sedimenti vremena’ (Sediments of Time) cycle curated by Sabina Oroshi, the exhibition opens on October 15. Ružić’s work investigates different temporalities, including the piece ‘Chronotope’, which uses sunlight to fade printed years on paper, contrasting calendar time with natural rhythms.
