Contemporary dance programs debut in San Carlos and at Centro Niemeyer
Contemporary dance productions are expanding in San Carlos and Avilés. In San Carlos, Chile, the Agrupación Cultural ‘Danza La Independiente’ will premiere the work ‘Variaciones Sobre el Estar: Fragmentos de presencia para la escena’ at Teatro La Matriz. Directed and performed by Rocío Celeste, the piece utilizes methodologies inspired by permaculture principles, focusing on the relationship between the body, breath, and time. Performances are scheduled for September 11, 12, 23, and 24.
In Spain, the Centro Niemeyer has announced its first-ever contemporary dance cycle, titled ‘Umbrales habitados,’ directed by choreographer Manu Badás. The cycle includes performances by Natalia Fernandes on October 4, Eduardo Vallejo and Michela Lanteri on November 29, and Sergio R. Suárez to close the series. Director Carlos Cuadros noted the initiative aims to address the historical lack of dance programming at the center, while Badás highlighted that dance remains one of the least supported performing arts in Spain.
