Contemporary perfumery trends explore storytelling and modern scent profiles

The contemporary perfumery landscape features diverse approaches to scent, ranging from storytelling-driven studios to modern interpretations of classic notes.

Stockholm-based studio Stora Skuggan, founded in 2015 by five multidisciplinary creatives, utilizes art and narrative to develop its fragrances. Their scents, such as ‘Thumbsucker’, which is inspired by ancient tales, and ‘Mistpouffer’, named after mysterious acoustic phenomena, are presented in distinctive glass bottles with oversized spherical caps. Each fragrance is designed to be a three-dimensional extension of a specific visual and narrative universe.

In the realm of modern gourmand scents, Caia has developed ‘Vanilla Days’, an amber-gourmand fragrance created in Grasse, France. Unlike traditional sweet vanilla perfumes, this composition aims for a sophisticated ‘signature scent’ by blending vanilla pod, meringue, and whipped cream with yuzu, white jasmine, and musk to achieve a lighter, more modern profile.
