Content creator repurposes old air conditioner into geothermal system

A content creator known as Craftsman Chris has successfully repurposed a discarded LG Dual Inverter window air conditioning unit into a functional geothermal heating and cooling system for his home.

By utilizing the existing compressor, pipes, refrigerant gas, and radiators, the project converts the unit's function. Instead of dissipating heat into the outside air via a traditional fan, the system uses a custom-designed watertight metal chamber to transfer heat into the ground. This setup works in conjunction with approximately 600 meters of PEX piping buried two meters underground to facilitate thermal exchange.
