Continental to add 650 ultra-high-performance tyre sizes by 2027
Continental is expanding its global portfolio of ultra-high-performance (UHP) tyres, planning to add more than 650 new sizes by the end of 2027. The expansion focuses on tyres measuring 18 inches and larger, catering to both the original equipment market for new vehicles and the replacement market.
The move responds to shifting automotive trends, including the rising popularity of SUVs and the growth of electric vehicles. These modern vehicles are often larger, heavier due to batteries, and more powerful, requiring tyres that offer improved safety, efficiency, and driving dynamics.
UHP tyres have seen significant growth within Continental’s business. Between 2020 and 2025, the share of UHP sales in the company’s global passenger-car tyre business rose from 41% to 55%. For the Continental brand specifically, the share increased from approximately 49% in 2020 to 62% in 2025. The expansion will also include the company’s secondary brands, Semperit and Uniroyal.
