Contrada della Torre awarded Masgalano 2026 in Siena

The Contrada della Torre has been awarded the Masgalano 2026 for excellence in elegance, dignity, and coordination during the Corteo Storico parade. The award was determined by a commission led by Giovanni Sportoletti.

The official award ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, September 20, at 5:30 p.m. in Piazza del Campo, Siena. The event will include city authorities and representatives from the seventeen Contrade. Additionally, the ceremony will feature the presentation of “bandierini” to the owners of the winning horses from the 2026 Palii, Diodoro and Anda e Bola.

The 2026 trophy was created by Sienese artist and goldsmith Antonio Benocci, with support from Berenice Arcamone. The piece was donated by the Siena section of the Unione Italiana dei Ciechi e degli Ipovedenti to honor the memory of the late Dr. Enrico “Ghigo” Giannelli.
