Controversial mural unveiling in Rijeka features song praising Ustaše crimes
During the unveiling of a new mural in the Vežica neighborhood of Rijeka, a song celebrating Ustaše crimes against Serbs was played. The mural, created by artist Vito Trkulja, features the double-headed eagle, the Croatian coat of arms, and symbols of HNK Rijeka.
Video footage from the event on October 17 shows that the song ‘Jasenovac i Gradiška Stara’ was broadcast during the ceremony. The song is known for glorifying the Independent State of Croatia (NDH) regime, its leader Ante Pavelić, and the mass killings committed at concentration camps such as Jasenovac and Stara Gradiška. The lyrics specifically reference Ustaše commanders and the violence directed at civilian populations during World War II.
