Contship to acquire Tarros Group to expand Mediterranean logistics

Contship, through its subsidiary Sogemar, has signed an agreement to acquire the Tarros Group, a major maritime transport and integrated logistics operator in the Mediterranean. The acquisition includes Tarros S.p.A. and its subsidiaries, such as Terminal del Golfo, Car Box, Compagnia Marittima Servizi, and Med Logistics Malta.

The deal aims to create an integrated Euro-Mediterranean logistics platform, strengthening trade corridors between Europe, the Mediterranean, and North Africa. Tarros Group, founded in 1828, operates across 16 countries and 31 ports, serving approximately 2,700 customers with a workforce of 751 employees.

While the acquisition is viewed as an opportunity to increase the competitiveness of the Port of La Spezia, the labor union Uiltrasporti has called for guarantees regarding employment, wages, and existing collective bargaining agreements. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals, with completion expected in the fourth quarter of 2026.
