CONTU National Congress 2026 convenes in Querétaro to discuss university labor and funding

The National Congress of the National Confederation of University Workers (CONTU) 2026 has commenced at the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro (UAQ). Under the theme “Visions and Coincidences of University Work,” the event brings together 62 university unions from all 32 Mexican states, representing approximately 300,000 workers.

Participants are analyzing critical challenges facing higher education, including public university financing, enrollment growth, infrastructure, and the impact of artificial intelligence on academic and administrative processes. Discussions also focus on labor justice, the prevention of conflicts, and the defense of workers' rights.

Martha Soto, Secretary of Education for the State of Querétaro, noted that the state government maintains a collaborative relationship with UAQ. She reported that the state subsidy for UAQ has seen a nominal increase of more than 60 percent between 2022 and 2026.
