Convatec hosts first national ostomy congress in Milan

The first Convatec National Ostomy Congress took place in Milan, bringing together clinicians, patient associations, and patients to advance ostomy therapy. The event focused on the company’s ‘Forever Caring’ initiative, which aims to provide continuous care and assistance over time.

Key highlights included the European premiere of the Peristomal Hygiene protocol and the S.A.C.S. EVOLUTION system, designed to protect skin integrity. Discussions also covered surgical excellence, including Cadaver Lab training and the use of the DRIP Score, a predictive tool for dehydration risk in ileostomies.

Pier Paolo Sileri, Director of Colorectal Surgery at IRCCS San Raffaele, noted that up to 50% of complications could be avoided through proper preoperative planning and training, emphasizing the importance of technical precision in reducing patient risks.
