Convento de Cristo reopens renovated cloisters in Tomar
The Convento de Cristo in Tomar is reopening its renovated cloisters to the public. As part of the European Heritage Days, the site will host a guided nighttime visit to the Main Cloister on September 24 at 9:00 pm. This reopening follows conservation and restoration work funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
The initiative includes new lighting designed to highlight the architectural and artistic features of the Main Cloister, the Charola, and the Manueline Nave. Visitors will also be able to view the illuminated sculptural ensemble of the Chapter Room Window, a famous 16th-century Manueline work by Diogo de Arruda.
Other regional cultural updates include the reopening of the Casa da Cidadania Salgueiro Maia in Castelo de Vide on October 1 following castle renovations, and the conclusion of the European Heritage Days in Vila Viçosa, which focuses on the town's candidacy for UNESCO World Heritage status.
