Conversano issues new ordinance for dog owners to improve urban hygiene

The Mayor of Conversano, Giuseppe Lovascio, has issued municipal ordinance no. 290/2026 to address issues regarding urban decorum, public hygiene, and civil coexistence. The measure follows repeated instances of improper behavior by dog owners, specifically the abandonment of solid waste and failure to clean up liquid waste.

Effective immediately, the ordinance imposes several obligations on all dog owners and handlers within the municipality. These include the mandatory immediate removal of solid waste using waterproof bags for proper disposal in trash bins. Additionally, owners must carry appropriate collection equipment and are required to wash away liquid waste from public surfaces such as walls, sidewalks, benches, and street furniture to prevent odors and sanitary risks.
