Cooch Behar development: CM Suvendu Adhikari announces major infrastructure and tourism plans
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has announced a series of major development projects for Cooch Behar during his first visit to the district as Chief Minister. Following a visit to the historic Madan Mohan Temple, Adhikari emphasized a goal to fulfill long-standing local expectations within one year, specifically targeting May 2027 for visible transformations.
Key initiatives include upgrading religious and nature-based tourism to mirror the success of the Dooars-Terai region. The administration plans to expand upon an initial 2 crore INR development report for the Madan Mohan Temple, with the Chief Minister directing more large-scale investment.
A significant focus is placed on the Cooch Behar airport. Adhikari noted an upcoming meeting with Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu to discuss the ‘UDAN’ scheme, aiming to restore permanent flight operations to the airport.
Infrastructure improvements will also target rail, road, and air connectivity, alongside the development of guest houses. Additionally, the government is prioritizing the implementation of various social welfare schemes, including Jal Jeevan Mission, PM Surya Ghar, Annapurna Yojana, PM Awas Yojana, PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, and the state's Krishak Bandhu project.
